As the temperature begins to rise, expect your skin to change a little too…

With summer just around the corner, it’s time to slough off the old and brighten up the new. Here’s our top tips for ensuring your skin is sunshine-ready and just as glowing:

1. LIGHTEN UP ON THE PRODUCTS

Just like you wouldn’t wear coats and thick socks in summer, so you shouldn’t add as many layers to your summer skincare regime. Whilst winter skin generally needs gentler cleansers and richer, creamier moisturizers, you may want to think about a more intense cleanser and lighter moisturizer in the hotter months. If your SPF contains a moisturizer, you shouldn’t have to add another. If your skin is prone to dryness, a light-weight hyaluronic acid serum underneath your SPF is best.

2. DON’T SKIMP ON SUN PROTECTION

If you’re hoping to fetch a tan this season, the best place to find it is inside a self-tan bottle. Skin that’s not protected from the sun ages faster and drastically decreases in elasticity too. Always apply an SPF 30-50 sunscreen as the last layer in your skin care routine (before applying make-up though).

3. SIP YOUR WAY TO GLOWING SKIN

Keeping your skin hydrated by drinking enough water is the best way to ensure it stays healthy and glowing in every season. Without enough water, your skin will dry out and become more prone to wrinkling. Dermatologists suggest drinking at least 8 glasses a day, but if you are like the 40% of Wonderful World Survey respondents who told us they exercise daily, then you will need to increase this by at least 2 glasses. Doing this will also help to flush out toxins from other parts of your body – improving your overall health and adding to your skin’s radiance as a result too.

4. SLOUGH AWAY

As skin tends to dry out quicker in summer, it’s important to exfoliate away the dead skin to avoid clogged pores and dullness too. Use an exfoliating body scrub or a loofah when you shower (2-3 times a week), paying special attention to elbows and knees. Then be sure to slap on some moisturizing cream straight after you’ve dried off.

5. GO EASY ON THE EYES

The sun’s glare isn’t just bad for your body, it’s especially hard on your eyes and their surrounds. Invest in a good-quality pair of sunglasses and a gentle eye cream to lessen wrinkles and soothe those peepers.

Whatever your routine and whatever the weather, remember to love the skin you’re in!
